«Cognize yourself – Discover the world» is a new interactive educational centre of the State Darwin museum opened at September 1, 2014. The «Chameleon» interactive application has become the central installation for welcoming young visitors at the very entrance. Interactive installation by itself is an application controlled by gestures from the leading player. Application is based on a 3D Kinect camera, which allows you to track up to six human poses. Users can take a picture with a chameleon, which adds an augmented reality element to the installation. Chameleon chooses its position next to the user based on skeleton tracking in such a way as to create the feeling of its presence in the scene in the photograph. Received images are sent to an interactive kiosk, where the user can view the taken photos, send them by mail or post on social networks.
From a technical point of view, the installation consists of a large display, a computer, a Kinect sensor and a stand with a freestanding tablet - an interactive kiosk. From a software standpoint, the application consists of two modules: an interactive application written in C# using Unity, and a web application running on an Android tablet.
